Google TechTalks: Leveraging India as it stands up
I watched a video of a pretty amazing talk by Dr. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, a prof from [tag]IIT [/tag][tag]Madras[/tag]. This is one of the talks in the ‘Google TechTalks’ series (all these talks on various topics in CS are given at Googleplexes all over the world and recorded and uploaded to Google Videos regularly for everyone to watch for free!).
This is a topic which I’m...
InvenSense: MEMS for camera phones
Idea: Embed a gyroscope inside a cameraphone to detect the orientation at the instant of time when the picture was taken inorder to eliminate any blurriness caused due to the shaking of the hand.Soon I can imagine people utilising this in-built motion sensor to create innovative games. Very cool and useful idea!

Geek song: “God Wrote in LISPâ€
Download: MP3
Lyrics:
I was taught assembler in my second year of school.
It’s kinda like construction work — with a toothpick for a tool.
So when I made my senior year, I threw my code away,
And learned the way to program that I still prefer today.
Now, some folks on the Internet put their faith in C++.
They swear that it’s so powerful, it’s what God used for us.
And maybe it lets...
Everything that’s bad about pay-per-click...
Anyways there was an interesting article by Cringley on Slashdot regarding Google click fraud. I figured that I totally neglected this aspect of Google (which actually contributes to 99% of their revenue) in my blog (am I another Google fanboy or what?). This post is mostly going to be a summary of what I have gathered by visiting the links mentioned at the end of this post: What’s going...
Top 10 tech priorities of CIOs in 2006
(via: ZDNet) I was just wondering the Top 10 list shown above (and which I stole from ZDNet) is a good place to start brainstorming for ideas to solve these major IT problems/concerns of the CIOs in a web 2.0’ish way. It will be nice to see a highly successful web2.0ish enterprise app. PS: Don’t drill me as to what exactly I meant by the word web2.0’ish in the above...
Updates on Seraja: Mobile+Web2.0
Seraja is an event tracking engine being developed by a team in Bangalore, India. I have written about Seraja before over here. Hindu BusinessLine has more updates on Seraja’s plans for the future - actually more about how their revenue generations plans in India. First of all, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised when I read the article because it looks like they’re mostly...
Adobe vs Microsoft
It is interesting that the web has focused so much on the ongoing war between Microsoft, Google and Yahoo in the search advertising space and other related areas. But no one has been focusing on the nice little cold war going on between Adobe and Microsoft. With the acquisition of Macromedia, I personally think Adobe is more aggressive than it ever has been when it comes to gaining a strong...
Monetizing IMs
It’s very interesting the innumerable no. of ways MSN tries to monetize the MSN Messenger. For a long time, I have been using AMSN, opensource MSN client even on Windows XP because it is lighter on memory requirements. Anyways a couple of weeks back I installed the Windows Live Messenger (beta) - pretty good IM client overall. But what is interesting is how they’ve transformed MSN IM...

Google co-op: a Rollyo rip-off?
Google recently launched Google Co-op. It pretty much looks like what the startup Rollyo has been trying to do for quite sometime. Incidentally, Rollyo uses Yahoo! Search underneath. What is even more surprising is all of a sudden, Google switched to the idea of tapping into collective human intelligence for better search add-ons. Sergey has been found stating several times (including one...
What the VCs feel about Web2.0
The following is an extract from an interview published in Forbes :-
So how is Web 2.0 different from the first Internet boom? Slavet: With the proliferation of “open source” software and viral marketing programs, Internet companies can reach millions of users with less money than before. [Open-source software allows customers to tweak a software program’s underlying code, so...
What the Wii will do for Nintendo…
I just finished watching the demo of Nintendo Wii in the US. I must say it is a real Revolution (they should have just stuck with this name!). As they seem to subtly mention a lot of times in the keynote, Nintendo is mainly interested in getting more people on-board the gaming world. They are not seriously targetting it at those serious Halo 2/WoW/NFS fans from the XBox and the PS2 world. Infact...
